About Us After immigrating from Austria, William Bogner Sr. began working in
NY City as an apprentice meat cutter and sausage maker during the
great depression years of 1929 through 1940. Eventually William and
his wife Elena moved to Connecticut with their two sons William Jr.
and Donald. They settled in Manchester Connecticut and built their slaughter
house by hand next to their home. The whole family worked in the
business that did custom slaughter for the many dairy farms located
in the state. They also supplied some large national meat packers located
in the state such as Armour and Swift. Both William Jr. and Donald
wanted to expand the business with smoked meats.
Using their fathers recipes they began processing a full range
of frankfurters, kielbasa, and Salamis. Customers loved the flavor and
quality of the products so they soon expanded into corned beef,
pastrami, and ground beef. In 1970 a portion of the plant was
converted into a retail store. The meat rails over the meat counter
stand as a testament of our roots and our commitment of quality and
freshness for our customers. Our family-owned-and-operated butcher
shops are conveniently located off of I-84.
